Ujamaa Center offers internships to university students specializing in environment and natural resources management, policy and law, gender, poverty reduction and community development among others. The internship programme aims to provide students at different stages of their courses with meaningful field experience in their relevant fields. In addition to gaining experience in their field of study, the interns acquire experience in organizing forums, writing proposals, and undertaking action research and advocacy. The Center hosts environment and international development students from various Universities worldwide during the summer, providing them with an opportunity to experience development work in East Africa, understand the realities and challenges of underdevelopment and opportunities for policy and legal action to secure rural livelihoods and the environment. Locally, students from Nairobi, Moi and Egerton Universities as well as middle level collages have benefited from this programme.
Ujamaa Center also undertakes consultancy and evaluation for different development actors in the East African region. Staffs of the Center have undertaken such assignments for various organizations in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania. The clientele for this type of work includes UN agencies international NGOs as well as national NGOs and local CBOs.
c) Strategic Partnerships
The Center is continuously working with like-minded organizations around the world to design programmes of work that promote partnerships within and across regions. Such partnerships are informed by the desire to build linkages that scale the work of the Center both vertically and horizontally for greater impact. Programme of work developed in these partnerships will be such as fit within the core programme areas above and add value to the work that is already ongoing in those programmes.
